KARACHI: The family of Shahzeb Khan on Monday decided to pardon the culprits responsible for their only son’s death.

The victim’s father, DSP Aurangzeb Khan and his mother Ambreen Aurangzeb have also requested for the release of the four perpetrators involved.

In the request filed with Sindh High Court, the family states that they have decided to pardon the culprits “in the name of Allah”, and therefore the court is obligated to do likewise.

It further states that the parents of both the parties have come to an understanding outside of court.

Khan’s parents moreover insist that they were under no pressure when filing the request, and have also decided not to accept any blood money from the culprits families.

The court’s writ branch has asked Khan’s family to present another copy of the request in court.

The final decision regarding the request will be made by the court.

Shahzeb Khan, 20, was gunned down on the night between December 24 and December 25, 2012 by Shahrukh Jatoi, who was accompanied by his friends, Siraj and Sajjad Talpur.

The young men had argued after the Talpur’s manservant, Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, had teased Khan’s sister.

An FIR was filed against the culprits under Section 302 at Darkhshan Police Station.

During the trial, 23 witnesses and two eye-witnesses had recorded their statements, after which an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi had sentenced the main accused, Shahrukh Jatoi, to death along with Siraj Talpur, while life-long jail terms had been given to Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari on June 7.

Shahzeb Murder Case : Two young men from wealthy Karachi families were sentenced to death today after being found guilty in a murder case that revealed the power of social media and civil society groups. The case also sparked widespread debate over whether Pakistan’s elite could be held accountable for crimes they committed.

Shahrukh Jatoi and Nawab Siraj Talpur were handed the death penalty after being found guilty of shooting dead university student Shahzeb Khan last December. The incident took place after Mr Khan was returning from a family wedding and got into a argument with one of Mr Talpur’s servants. The servant had apparently made comments to Mr Khan’s sister.

According to the judgement, the court has penalized all four accused with Rs 500,000 fine while Sajjad Talpur and Murtaza Lashari will serve an additional one-year imprisonment for harassing Shahzeb’s sister.

Shahzeb Khan, 20, was shot dead on the night between December 24 and 25 last year. Seven people including Shahrukh Jatoi, Nawab Siraj Talpur his brother Sajjad Talpur and their employee Murtaza Lashari were booked in the murder case.

However, the court declared three accused as absconders as they are still at large.

Under anti-terrorism laws, cases are decided within seven days but proceedings in the aforesaid case were completed in two months and 20 days given the complex nature of case.

During the course of the trial the ATC had upheld its decision of declaring key accused Shahzeb an adult after reviewing the ossification report and other documentary evidence.

She rejected all the reports about her family willing to strike a deal with the accused, by accepting blood money. She dubbed such reports an effort to vilify her family.

According to the Associated Press, defence lawyer Hummol Zubedi confirmed the court’s decision but said that the defendants would appeal it. He claimed the prosecution’s case was badly flawed. He also confirmed that Sajjad Talpur and Mustafa Lashari had been sentenced to life in prison for their role in the murder.

 KARACHI: Two eyewitnesses in the Shahzeb Khan murder case refused to identity main acccused Shahrukh Jatoi in an Anti-Terrorism court here

Earlier, four eyewitnesses in the case had identified the accused before the Judicial Magistrate but their statements as witnesses had not been recorded.

The two witnesses who were Shahzeb Khan’s neighbors appeared before the anti-terrorism court on Monday. The witnesses informed the court that they did not see Shahrukh Jatoi at the scene of the crime.

20 year old Shahzeb Khan was shot and killed in the Defence area of Karachi on 25 December 2012. Shahrukh Jatoi, Siraj Talpur, Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Mustafa Lashari are being tired for his murder in the Anti Terrorism Court.



The two witnesses in Shahzeb Khan murder case have changed their statement stating that they have not seen Shahrukh Jataoi, the main accused committing the crime.

Sources said that the witnesses said they did not see Shahrukh Jatoi and other accused murdering Shahzeb Khan.

Shahrukh Jatoi, along with three other nominated accused Nawab Siraj Ali Talpur, Nawab Sajjad Ali Talpur and their employee Ghulam Murtaza Lashari, has been accused of killing private university student Shahzeb Khan after a brawl in DHA Phase V on December 25.

KARACHI: A special anti-terrorism court (ATC) has ordered to transfer Shahrukh Jatoi, the main accused in the murder of Shahzeb Khan, from juvenile jail to central jail.

During proceedings today, the medical report pertaining to age verification of Shahrukh Jatoi was presented before the court.

A Seven-member medical board, constituted to ascertain Shahrukh Jatoi’s age, declared that he is over 19 years of age.

According to birth and academic certificates Jatoi was born on 27th November 1993, accordingly, his age is 19 years.

The new medical board was formed after the court rejected a report prepared by a police surgeon, who had concluded that Shahrukh appeared to be a minor.

The court also issued show cause notice to investigating officer and police surgeon for presenting wrong medical report.
