SANAA: A suicide bomber dressed as a woman killed 33 people in central Yemen on Wednesday when he blew himself up at a celebration by a militia supporters, medical and security sources said.

Warning – Item Yemen: Suicide bomber kills 23 Houthis in Ibb *GRAPHIC* might contain content that is not suitable for all ages.

Dozens of people were also wounded in the attack in the mainly Sunni city of Ibb, held by the Huthi militia, the medics said, warning that the death toll was likely to rise.

Yemen has been dogged by instability since an uprising forced longtime strongman Ali Abdullah Saleh from power in 2012, with Huthi rebels and Al-Qaeda seeking to fill the power vacuum.

Among those wounded in Wednesday´s attack was Ibb governor Yahya al-Aryani, who was attending the Huthi commemoration of the Prophet Mohammed´s birthday, a medic said.

A security source told AFP the bomber had been wearing a woman´s black abaya and veil when he detonated his suicide belt.

Another bomb was discovered at the entrance to the event´s venue, the source added.

The United States, allied with Yemen in fighting militants, “strongly condemns” the attack, a State Department spokesman said.

“We will continue to stand with the government of Yemen and the Yemeni people to counter the shared threat posed by violent extremists,” added Jeff Rathke, the spokesman.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the Yemen branch of the jihadist organisation, has pledged to fight the Huthis, who overran the capital Sanaa unopposed in September and have since advanced into mainly Sunni districts such as Ibb.

AQAP military chief Qassem al-Rimi vowed in November to carry out fierce attacks against the militia, and several deadly bombings targeting Huthis have been claimed by the jihadist group.

Al-Qaeda has also carried out a spate of attacks against the security forces from its strongholds in the south and east in recent weeks.

In the southern province of Shabwa on Wednesday, unidentified gunmen killed police officer Colonel Mohamed al-Nessi near the provincial capital Ataq before fleeing, a police source said.

There was no immediate claim for the shooting but last weekend AQAP claimed an attempt to assassinate a top general in an ambush that killed two soldiers and wounded 11.

Indonesian officials have confirmed that debris spotted floating in the sea by search and rescue parties is wreckage from AirAsia flight QZ8501, which went missing on December 28th. Bambang Soelistyo, the head of Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency, told AFP that planes have spotted a “shadow at the bottom of the sea in the form of a plane.” The Indonesian Navy has also reported retrieving more than 40 bodies from the crash area.

“For the time being it can be confirmed that it’s the AirAsia plane and the transport minister will depart soon to Pangkalan Bun,” Djoko Murjatmodjo, the Indonesian acting director of civil aviation, told the press agency. He added that the wreckage had been found “160 kilometres southwest of Pangkalan Bun,” referring to a town in the Central Kalimantan province on the island of Borneo. “Based on the observation by search and rescue personnel, significant things have been found such as a passenger door and cargo door,” said Murjatmodjo.

Indonesian local media said that some of the objects resembled suitcases, buoys, and aircraft debris. Officials have also reported finding “victims” near the crash site and there have been multiple reports of bodies being recovered. Twitter users have also reported that Indonesian TV station tvOne has shown images of bodies floating in the water. The Airbus A320-200 was carrying a total of 162 people and is believed to have crashed in poor weather conditions.

Following the announcement by Indonesian officials, AirAsia CEO Tony Fernandes tweeted that he would be “rushing to Surabaya” and offered his condolences to the families of those onboard the flight.

At least 150 females, including pregnant women, were executed in Fallujah by a militant named Abu Anas Al-Libi after they refused to accept jihad marriage,” the statement said. “Many families were also forced to migrate from the province’s northern town of Al-Wafa after hundreds of residents received death threats.”

Isis has executed at least 150 women for refusing to marry militants in Iraq, Turkish media has reported.

A statement released by the country’s Ministry of Human Rights on Tuesday said the militants had attacked women in the western Iraqi province of Al-Anbar before burying them in mass graves in Fallujah.

Some of the women killed were pregnant at the time, according to the Anadolu Agency.

“At least 150 females, including pregnant women, were executed in Fallujah by a militant named Abu Anas Al-Libi after they refused to accept jihad marriage,” the statement said.

“Many families were also forced to migrate from the province’s northern town of Al-Wafa after hundreds of residents received death threats.”

Isis has overrun a large part of the western Anbar province in its push to expand its territory across swathes of Iraq and Syria.

ISIS unleashes terror across Syria and Iraq.

The executions come after the militant group shot dead at least 50 men, women and children in a tribe massacre in the province last month.

The attack against the Al Bu Nimr tribe took place in the village of Ras al-Maa, north of Ramadi, the provincial capital. There, the militant group killed at least 40 men, six women and four children.

A senior tribesman said they were lined up and publicly killed one by one. An official within the Anbar governor’s office corroborated the tribesman’s account, according to The Associated Press.

Isis also recently published what appeared to be an “abhorrent” pamphlet providing its followers with guidelines on how to capture, keep and sexually abuse female slaves.

Tony Abbott

SYDNEY: Prime Minister Tony Abbott on Wednesday offered sympathy to Pakistan after a deadly Taliban raid on a school, as Australia deals with the fallout from a cafe siege by a deranged Islamic gunman.

Abbott said the carnage at the school in the northwestern city of Peshawar, in which at least 141 people died, mostly children, was hard to comprehend.

“Well it is simply impossible to put into words, the mixture of grief and fury that must be felt by people in Pakistan, and indeed around the world, at this latest terrorist atrocity,” he told ABC radio.

“And I hope, I hope in my deepest heart that somewhere in the hearts of people who might otherwise be attracted to this, there is a realisation that it is never, ever right to kill innocent people.

“And that’s what we’ve seen on a mass scale in Pakistan overnight.”

Abbott’s comments come with Australia picking up the pieces after a near 17-hour siege in a central Sydney cafe in which an Iranian-born man, who unfurled an Islamic flag, took 17 hostages.

The gunman, who had a history of extremism, and two hostages died as police stormed the eatery early Tuesday, sparking an outpouring of grief for the innocent victims, from both ordinary Australians and the Muslim community- AFP
