How to Get a Driving License in Islamabad?

This article outlines the complete process for obtaining a driving license in Islamabad. Please follow all instructions carefully, especially regarding the learner permit application.

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has introduced its “Facilitation on Wheels” initiative, providing mobile licensing services for public convenience. These mobile units visit different neighborhoods, allowing residents to apply for learner permits directly from their local areas.

The essential documents for a learner’s license:

The candidate must have

  • Original CNIC card (The CNIC must have permanent/temporary address of Islamabad)
  • The photocopy of original CNIC
  • Form-B (for Medical Certificate)

Visit the ITP Office

  • Location: West Service Road, Sector F-8/1, near Street No. 32
  • Park your vehicle in the designated area.
  • Token Submission
  • Obtain a token from the QMS counter after presenting your original CNIC.
  • Wait in the One-Window Hall until your number is called.

Registration & Verification

Provide personal details at the counter. Verify all information before submission.

Road Safety Training

  • Attend a mandatory 1-hour session on traffic regulations. Receive a stamped learner permit upon completion.

Note: The driving test can be scheduled after 42 days. Applicants must bring their own vehicle for the assessment.

Permanent License Application (After 42 Days)

  1. Required Items
    • Original learner permit
    • CNIC (original + copy)
  2. Token & Documentation
    • Collect a token from QMS and wait for your turn.
    • Submit biometrics (photo and thumb impression) at the counter.
  3. Theory Test
    • Format Options: Computer-based (touchscreen) or paper-based
    • Test Details:
      • Duration: 4 minutes
      • Questions: 10 (10 marks each)
      • Passing Score: 70/100

Practical Driving Test

  • Conducted at Traffic Theme Park after passing the theory test.
  • Post-Test Steps:
    • Submit documents to the Inspector Licensing Office.
    • Receive a provisional slip with a collection date.
    • Collect the permanent license from the delivery counter on the specified date.

Payment: Fees are processed at the National Bank branch within the ITP office.
