Matric and Intermediate Exams to be held as scheduled

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Shafqat Mahmood, has announced that all Matric and Intermediate exams will be held as scheduled across the country despite closure of schools being extended across coronavirus hit cities.

He made the announcement while addressing a press conference after the meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) that was attended by education and health minister from all provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&J).

The meeting reviewed the current coronavirus situation across the country and decided to keep educational institutions closed in coronavirus hotspot areas across major cities till 11 April 2021. However, the education minister said that matric and intermediate exams will take place as previously scheduled by the provincial governments.

Shafqat Mahmood also said that he will hold a meeting with the Cambridge Exam Board to see if it is possible to postpone the examinations or not.

The Punjab Education Minister Dr Murad Raas also made the announcement regarding the extension in closure of schools in major cities after the meeting. “All Public & Private schools of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargoda, Sheikhupura will remain closed till April 11th, 2021.” he stated on Twitter.

Another meeting of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) will be held on 7 April 2021 to review the coronavirus situation at the time and decide whether to reopen or extend the closure of schools in coronavirus hit cities of Pakistan.
