LAHORE: The Punjab Education Department has prepared standard operating procedures (SOPs) for reopening schools in the province following months long closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Punjab Education Department has devised strict SOPs for reopening schools in the province. According to these SOPs, educational institutions will operate in a limited capacity in two shifts to avoid crowding students.
A maximum of 20 students will be allowed to sit in a classroom and not more than two students will be allowed at one desk making sure a reasonable distance is maintained.
Temperature of students, teachers and all other staff will be checked at the entrance of the schools or educational facility and it will be mandatory for the school management to arrange hand sanitizers from their own budget which should be available in all classrooms, staff rooms and bathrooms.
According to the SOPs, schools in Punjab will not be allowed to carry out any functions or ceremony and this includes school assembly. Furthermore, there will be no recess (break) during school hours for students.
Earlier in July, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood said that the Government will reopen schools from 15 September. However, the final decision will be taken by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) based on the coronavirus situation in the country.
