Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy launches Pakistan’s first minorities web platform

Two time academy award winner Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has successfully launched Pakistan’s first ever digital platform for minorities. Titled White in the Flag, the filmmaker’s piece of art is an interactive website, dedicated to the minor factions of the country. The digital web aims to encourage the unheard voices of the subgroups, who are a significant asset of the population, and therefore deserves equal rights, recognition and justice in the Islamic Republic.

Minorities are an essential fragment of every state and country, and therefore ensuring their wellbeing is the responsibility of every citizen and leader. Likewise, a huge mass of non-Muslim inhabitants is resided in Pakistan also. However, their subjects are often overlooked and left unconsidered by the political parties, police departments, healthcare officials and other livings. And so, the minority groups have need of an exclusive platform, where their calls for help can be heard and regarded, where their existence would matter.

And, to fulfill this basicity, the legendary Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy has finally stepped ahead, as she introduced the Pakistan’s first digital website, wholly for the minority sections.

Named to be “White in the Flag” the title symbolizes portion of Pakistan’s flag that was shaped for the minorities and symbolized their importance in Pakistan. Similarly, the website offers a comparable representation of the subgroups of Pakistan.

The project intents to inform people about the vast population of minorities in Pakistan, the issues they face, their concerns, their injustice, the legislation used against them as well as how to reach out for them and support their causes.

Taking it to her instagram handle, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy gave an insight of her latest work “White in the Flag” terming it to be an interactive website. As said by Sharmeen, the giant will help minorities earn the respect and position they are worthy of. Also, it will serve as an open book for major groups to learn about the services and sacrifices of the minors. Hence, this will all in all assist in promoting welfare of the minor population.

Talking about “White in the flag” the journalist stated,

“Between forced conversions, abductions, terrorism at their places of worship, and target killings, Pakistan’s minorities face an uphill battle just to exist. With White in the Flag, we want to ensure that citizens experiencing religious discrimination in our society are able to have their voices heard on issues that are important to them, protect and promote their rights, have their views and wishes genuinely considered when decisions are being made about their lives and communities.” is an interactive website that aims to serve as a platform for students, activists, and legislators to come together and be able to discuss possible solutions to the various problems religious minorities in Pakistan face while providing a detailed record of the past, present, and future. The platform will be a source of detailed information for those interested to understand and spread awareness about the issues they face.” – She added.

About White In The Flag

The Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy introduced White in the Flag has an entire fragment dedicated to the histories of minorities. This features films and podcasts such as Representations of Minorities in the Media: Ahmadis; Representations of Minorities in the Media: The Mandir; The Defender; Minorities and Social Pariahism; Minorities and Section 295-C; The Story of Abdul Sattar Edhi; and Kulsoom Hazara the Karate Wonder.

Besides, the website also houses loads of articles on the real life heroes of the minorities. This section includes articles on Asma Jehangir, Jogendra Nath Mandal, John Joseph, Rashid Rehman, Salman Taseer, Shahbaz Bhatti, Arafat Mazhar, Jibran Nasir, IA Rehman, Peter Jacob, Hina Jilani, Veerji Kohli, Paul Bhatti, Haroon Sarab Diyal, Saif ul Malook, Romana Bashir and Jalila Haider among others.
