Here is the list of topmost highly anticipated novels and book based films, coming out in near future, which you truly need to read this summer, before their screen adaptations hit theatres.

From Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s piece of art “Dune,” to Lady Gaga and Adam Driver’s starrer “House of Gucci”, there is a huge lineup of book based films and television series in the works at different streaming giants, slated for a 2021 and 2022 release.  

Moreover, even though, screenplays that come out of books and novels are highly descriptive, and therefore earn critical prominence, majority audience still prefers to read the original version to get into the depths of the storyline. Hence, to get the first hand idea of what you’re to explore on your screens, here is the list of top 8 massively popular book based films in the pipeline for this year.

1. ‘Nightmare Alley’

William Lindsay Gresham’s 1946 psychological thriller Nightmare Alley is being adapted in to film by Guillermo Del Toro. The book based film stars Bradley Cooper as a corrupt con-man, who teams up with a female psychiatrist Rooney Mara, as the duo trick people into giving them money.

Set to release on December 3rd this year, the ‘Nightamre Ally’ also stars Paul Anderson, Ron Perlman, Cate Blantchett and William Dafoe in pivotal roles.

2. ‘There’s someone inside Your House’

One of the highly acclaimed page turner novels of 2017, ‘There’s someone inside Your House’ by Stephanie Perkins lies among topnotch crime and horror thrillers, that, owing to its compelling plot, keeps the audience glued to the book till the last page. The novel follows a mysterious serial killer, targeting graduating batch of a High School, all while exposing their innermost secrets.

Moreover, following the hardcover’s fame, a book based slasher films of ‘There’s someone inside your house’ is in the works with Director Patrick Kack-Brice, set to premiere sometime in 2021 by Netflix. The synopsis revolves around a teenager Makani Young, who is adjusting to her new life in the small town of Osborne; one year after her parents sent her away from Hawaii to live with her grandmother in rural Nebraska.

Though she befriends a few friends and even flirts with a romantic interest at Osborne High, Makani is still haunted by the secrets of her past life.

Moreover, sometime later, the students at her school die in a series of gruesome murders. And, as the terror grows closer and the hunt intensifies for the killer, the dark secrets of the past starts surfacing, messing up with the lives and friendships.

3. Fear Street

Goosebumps series fans tighten your seatbelts, as Netflix is all set to release an entire trilogy of movies based on R.L. Stine’s iconic series. The first installment of this book based horror film was released this month on July 2nd. Meanwhile, the other parts are scheduled to come out throughout the summer.

Starring Gillian Jacobs, Sadie Sink, Kiana Madeira, Olivia Welch, Benjamin Flores Jr., Ashley Zukerman, Fred Hechinger, Julia Rehwald and Jeremy Ford, the Fear Street follows a group of teenagers in the 1990s, as they work to uncover the riddled history of their Ohio hometown.

4. The Last Letter From Your Lover

Augustine Frizzell is geared up to bring back the old times romance with book based film adaptation of Jojo Moyes’s renowned ‘the last letter from your lover’ coming out on Jul 31st. The romantic saga of 1960’s follows driven journalist named Ellie on a quest to piece together the twisted narrative of Jennifer Stirling’s love story of an earlier generation after she finds a pack of mysterious letters in her newspaper archives.

Furthermore, starring Felicity Jones, Shailene Woodley, Callum Turner and Joe Alwyn as centrals, ‘the last letter from your lover’ will be released on digital web Netflix.

5. The Reincarnationist Papers

Widely renowned fantasy fiction of D Eric Maikranz, ‘The Reincarnationist Papers’ is also getting book based films adaptations, coming out on September 10th.

Featuring the acting veterans Mark Wahlberg, Dylan O’ Brien and Sophie Cookson, the title refer to three sets of notebooks found in an antique store in Rome, offering eerie glimpses into a secret society of people who have total memory of their past lives.

Found in Rome twenty years ago, ‘The Reincarnationist Papers’ follows Evan Michaels, a troubled young man who struggles with having memories from two other lives. Believing that he is the only one in the world burdened with other people’s complete memories nearly leads to his self-destruction, until he meets a mysterious woman named Poppy. She understands Evan’s struggle because she is exactly like him, only she remembers seven lives. Poppy changes Evan’s world forever when she invites him into a centuries-old secret society of 28 others who are like them and he realizes that he is not alone. The Reincarnationists, collectively known as the Cognomina, recalls all their past lives and experiences and find one another over and over again in each new incarnation. But to become part of this secretive group, Evan must first prove that he is truly one of them.

6. Dune

The highly anticipated book based film adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic “Dune” is coming out on October 1st. Helmed by Denis Villeneuve’s and starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya,  the story will span through two feature-length films and a companion series on HBO called “Dune: The Sisterhood.”

Moreover, about the timeline, the six-book series will portray the protagonist Paul Atredies, played by Chalamet, lead nomadic tribes on a distant planet in the future, as he takes over his family’s business empire. Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgärd and Oscar Isaac will also be spotted in significant characters.

7. Anatomy of a Scandal

David E. Kelley of Big Little Lies and “House of Cards” showrunner Melissa James Gibson have joined hands and brought to life the Netflix’s anthology series based on Sarah Vaughan’s original novel. The best-seller spotlights Sophie Whitehouse, the housewife with the picture-perfect life whose world is turned upside down when her husband is accused of sexual assault. The upcoming series is set to come out in 2021, and stars Sienna Miller, Rupert Friend and Michelle Dockery.

8. Deep Water

This erotic thriller by Patricia Highsmith follows a couple, Melinda and Vic Van Allen, whose marriage is being held together by one precarious agreement: Melinda can take on as many lovers as she pleases as long as she agrees not to leave the family. However, the arrangement goes well until her lovers begin to mysteriously disappear, planting Vic as the prime suspects of their deaths.

Deep Water

The silver screen book based film adaptation, stars Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas in titular characters, and was originally slated for a 2020 release. But, Deep Water is now set for a premiere in January 2022. The film also stars Jacob Elordi and Finn Witrock.
