PTA Carries Crackdown on Illegal Issuance of SIMs in 5 Cities

Islamabad (29th July 2024): Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Offices Lahore, Faisalabad and Peshawar have conducted a series of raids against franchisees of Telenor, Jazz, Ufone and CMPak located in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Kot Momin, Kohat and Hangu. The franchisees were involved in the illegal issuance of SIMs which are often associated with criminal activities such as fraud, identity theft, and other illicit operations.

During the raids, the FIA seized 4 laptops, 1 PC, 12 BVS devices, active SIMs, mobile phones, hard-disk, original CNICs with photocopies and soft copies of Afghan passports and POR cards. 15 persons working for the franchisees were arrested at the spot and FIRs have been registered by the agency. FIA is further investigating the cases.

PTA had filed complaints with FIA earlier based on information regarding illegal issuance of SIMs by the sales channel. The raids signify the Authority’s dedication to eradicate the illegal issuance of SIMs.

Farhan Abro

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
