The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, a highly anticipated event, is making its debut in Sharjah, promising a captivating literary experience. Running from December 19 to January 7 at Expo Centre Sharjah, the fair boasts a reputation for an extensive collection of discounted books, with opening hours from 10 am to 12 am (midnight).

In an interview, Andrew Yap, co-founder and managing director of Big Bad Wolf, shared the fair’s mission to change the world through books, particularly focusing on children’s literature. Yap emphasized creating an exciting atmosphere to make reading enjoyable for kids. The discounts at the fair start at 85%, with some books priced as low as Dh2, and a median discount range of around 75%.
Yap expressed confidence in the affordability of the fair, stating that everything inside is reasonably priced. The event offers a diverse selection of genres, including fiction, non-fiction, and children’s books, with a vast array of 50,000 titles. Yap acknowledged that fully appreciating the selection would take several days.
This marks the first time the Big Bad Wolf Book Fair is being held in Sharjah, a city known for its libraries and cultural centers. Yap praised the vibrant community of readers and students in Sharjah, recognizing the high demand for literary events in the emirate.
Reflecting on the overall Big Bad Wolf experience in the UAE, Yap commended the government’s continuous support. He stressed the importance of providing affordable books for children, advocating for a balance between bookstores and restaurants. Looking to the future, Yap revealed plans to expand the fair to other emirates, with inquiries about bringing it to Abu Dhabi. Media support and collaboration are deemed essential for the success of these expansions.
