Coronavirus cases in Pakistan surge to 7018

The total number of coronavirus cases in Pakistan have surged to 7,018 with almost a thousand cases being reported in the last 24 hours and the country’s death toll has reached 134.

Coronavirus cases in Pakistan have surged to 7,018 with 134 deaths.

Since our last report, Punjab has reported one more death with the death toll of the province now at 35 according to Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.

Punjab's #COVID19 status as on 16th April:
Total Tests Conducted: 48,381
Positive cases: 3,276
Zaireen in quarantines: 701
Members of Tableeghi Jama'ats: 1,257
Jail prisoners: 91
Non-Quarantined cases: 1227
Recovered: 630
Deaths: 35

Balochistan also reported two more deaths with the total of the province now at 5 fatalities due to coronavirus according to the government spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported three more deaths today bringing their total to 45 according to Health Minister KP Taimur Khan Jhagra.

Global Update

The total number of coronavirus cases in the world have surged past 2,166,832 while the death toll has surpassed 144,500 with the United States having the most number of cases as well as the highest death toll.

The United States has over 669,000 coronavirus cases making up over 30 percent of the global cases while the country’s death toll is 34,103 which makes up over 23 percent of the global fatalities. The US is reporting nearly 2,000 deaths each day while the number of cases are over 20,000.

Spain currently has the second highest number of coronavirus cases globally with over 182,500 along with a death toll of 19,130 which is the third highest in the world. The country has seen a significant improvement in the daily numbers being reported.

Italy has the third highest number of coronavirus cases with over 168,941 while the death toll is 22,170 which is the second highest. Italy has also seen an improvement in the daily numbers.

France has seen a significant surge in the daily number of cases however there is a slight improvement in the daily fatalities which reached almost 1,500 per day. The number of coronavirus cases in the country is over 165,000 with a death toll of 17,920. There has been over 17,000 new cases reported on Thursday.

The UK has also been reporting a high daily death toll and number of new cases which are now over 103,000. The number of fatalities is currently 13,729.
