Heavy Rains Cause Water Accumulation and Power Outages

The recent heavy rains in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have led to significant water accumulation in several low-lying areas, causing disruptions and power outages. In response to the situation, the Managing Director of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA), Muhammad Saleem Ashraf, has declared a rain emergency in Rawalpindi.

Rawalpindi’s Rainfall and Emergency Measures

The city has recorded substantial rainfall, with Bokra receiving 100 millimetres and the Kachehri region 107 millimetres.

This heavy downpour has resulted in water pooling in various parts of the city, raising concerns over potential flooding, particularly in the Nullah Lai area.

To address the situation, WASA has deployed staff and machinery to manage the water accumulation. The authority is closely monitoring the water levels in Nullah Lai, a critical point of concern due to its history of flooding during heavy rains.

The residents of Rawalpindi are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Islamabad

In Islamabad, the heavy rain has similarly affected several areas, with notable water accumulation on roads in sectors F-11 and F-10. The Islamabad administration, in coordination with teams from the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), is actively engaged in drainage operations to prevent further disruptions.

Assistant Commissioners have been tasked with overseeing operations in low-lying areas and ensuring that drainage systems are functioning effectively. The focus is on minimizing the impact of the rain on daily life and preventing any potential emergencies.
