ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the Rehmatul-Lil Alameen Scholarship Program in Islamabad on Thursday to help deserving and underprivileged students get access to undergraduate education across the country.
According to the details, the Rehmatul-Lil Alameen Scholarship Program will be available across 129 universities across the country with a total budget of Rs. 27.93 billion for the next five years.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the federal government will spend Rs. 5.5 billion every year on 70,000 scholarships under this programme. “No nation can progress without education,” the premier stated while addressing the inauguration ceremony in Islamabad.
The Higher Education Commission has launched the Rehmatul-Lil Alameen Scholarship Program at the federal level while provinces have been instructed to pursue the programme at the local level.
In Punjab, the annual budget for the programme has been set at Rs. 1 billion while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will start the same programme with an annual budget of Rs. 427 million.
Undergraduate students all over the country can apply for the Rehmatul-Lil Alameen Scholarship Programme if their family income is less than Rs. 25,000 in order to get a higher education which otherwise would have been impossible.
