KARACHI: A billboard falls during the heavy Karachi rain and fourth monsoon spell being experienced in the port city, hitting and injuring two motorcyclists including a 65-year-old man who received severe injuries as a result.
The injured motorcyclists were immediately shifted to the hospital and according to reports, the 65-year-old man received several injuries whereas the other man only received minor scratches and provided first aid. The video shows how the billboard fell hitting the two motorcyclists in Karachi.
The incident occurred at Metropole Chowrangi area next to Village Restaurant where a billboard fell during the heavy Karachi rain and thunderstorm.
In 2018, the Supreme Court issued orders to remove all billboards on major roads in Karachi following similar incidents where many people were injured during rain and thunderstorms in Karachi resulting in fall of these billboards.
More than 150 billboards were removed from multiple areas of the port city including Shahra-e-Faisal. However, a loss was reported for advertising companies resulting in new rules being introduced where new billboards were allowed to be installed that were not hazardous to residents under such circumstances.
