LESCO Lifts Ban on Green Meters for Solar Systems

Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has lifted the ban on green meters for solar systems, marking a significant shift in the city’s renewable energy landscape.

LESCO Lifts Ban on Green Meters for Solar Systems

A recently issued notification by LESCO permits the temporary installation of bi-directional green meters until October 15. Consumers will now receive No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for these meters, allowing for their use in solar systems.

This decision comes after LESCO’s earlier mandate to install AMI meters instead of green meters starting from July 1, 2024. The transition to AMI meters led to a sharp price increase, causing concerns among consumers and industry stakeholders. Compounding the issue, meter manufacturing companies faced a severe stock shortage, making it nearly impossible to meet the demand for AMI meters.

The temporary reinstatement of green meters is expected to alleviate these issues, providing a more cost-effective and readily available solution for solar system users. The move is a welcome relief for many, ensuring that the growth of solar energy in Lahore can continue without significant disruptions.

For residents and businesses relying on solar power, this decision by LESCO represents a crucial step towards more sustainable and accessible energy solutions. Keep an eye on further updates as the situation evolves and additional measures are taken to support renewable energy initiatives in the region.
