“Pakistani drama industry has always been appreciated for its quality production and has attracted viewership both in national and international market. However over the time the quality has deteriorated” stated PEMRA.
Pakistani Dramas reflect the influence of alien cultures that does not represent Pakistani life style and culture. Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has been receiving complaints from general public regarding the bold and indecent contents.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has stated in its notice dated 5th September that :
“Plots of Pakistani dramas are influenced by alien cultures. Unnecessary glamour, as well as bold scenes, are being shown in the TV serials while ignoring religious, social, cultural and ethical values of the country,”
Indecent scenes, dialogues, extramarital relations, violence and exploitation were being glamorised while disregarding “ethical bindings of the Pakistani society”.
Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued notice is also not free from criticism from the general public. Many took to social media.
What, pray tell, is the ‘true picture of Pakistani society’?
Not every drama serial is meant to be watched with the family. Pinky & Babloo can be put to bed before, no? How is television content expected to diversify when we get sweeping generalizations like this: https://t.co/0sHwMVGtDc
