PIA Bypasses Indian Airspace Amid Regional Tensions

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to avoid using Indian airspace due to recent regional tensions. According to a PIA spokesperson, this precautionary measure has been taken to ensure passenger safety and secure flight operations.

PIA spokesperson Abdullah Khan confirmed to Independent Urdu that the decision took immediate effect. International flights—particularly those bound for East Asia—will now reroute through Chinese airspace instead of India.

For instance, flight PK-898 from Lahore to Kuala Lumpur has already adopted the new route via China, carrying over 120 passengers. Traditionally, PIA flights to Malaysia and East Asia used Indian airspace, but significant route changes have been made to mitigate potential risks.

India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate
This move comes as India has also imposed restrictions on Pakistani flights using its airspace. Recent border tensions between the two nations have directly impacted air travel.

CAA Assures Safety
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesperson Shahid Qadir told Independent Urdu that Pakistan’s airspace remains fully secure, with domestic and international flights operating normally. He stated that measures are being taken per government directives, and no new instructions are currently anticipated.

“Except for restrictions on Indian-origin aircraft, all other air operations continue without immediate threats,” he added.

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
