Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has secured a landslide victory in the crucial by-elections in Punjab as the party was able to secure majority of the seats in the Punjab Assembly. According to the unconfirmed and unofficial results for Punjab by-elections, PTI was able to secure 15 seats, while PML-N was able to bag 4 seats, including one in Lahore.
Furthermore, the one remaining seat was won by an independent candidate, Syed Muhammad Rafi-ud-Din, who was able to secure 45,020 votes against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate, Izzat Javaid Khan, who was able to bag just 38,338 votes, based on the unconfirmed and unofficial results of the Punjab by-polls for PP-228 Lodhran V.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) accepted defeat against PTI, with party president Maryam Nawaz saying that party members should accept the results of the Punjab by-elections. “PML-N should openly accept the results.” wrote Maryam Nawaz, adding that party workers should accept the decision of the people.
“Wherever there are weaknesses, efforts should be made to identify them and overcome them,” she added, while commenting on the party’s performance in the Punjab by-elections.

Imran Khan congratulates PTI workers
Former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman, Imran Khan, congratulated the party workers and voters over the victory in the Punjab by-elections. “I want to first thank our PTI workers [and] voters of Punjab for defeating not just [PML-N] candidates but the entire state machinery, [especially] harassment by police and a totally biased [Election Commission of Pakistan],” he wrote on Twitter.
“Thank you to all our Allies, PMLQ, MWM & Sunni Ittehad Council.” he said, adding that only way forward from here is to hold fair and free elections under a credible ECP as any other path would lead to greater political instability and further economic chaos.
