The Punjab government has decided to overhaul its existing policy concerning the employment of children whose parents have passed away during their service, as per Section 17-A of the Punjab Civil Services Rules. As reported by 24NewsHD TV channel on Thursday, the government has opted to replace job provisions with a new approach centered on providing monetary compensation to the bereaved families.

This decision comes into effect following the approval of the cabinet, and the Punjab Finance Department has issued an official notification.
According to the updated policy, families of employees falling in grades 1 to 4 will be entitled to financial aid amounting to Rs five million. Similarly, those in grades 5 to 10 will receive Rs 7.5 million, while families of employees in grades 11 and 12 will be compensated with Rs 10 million. Further, families of grade 16 to 17 employees are set to receive Rs 15 million, and the highest compensation of Rs 20 million will be allocated in the unfortunate event of an officer’s demise in grades 18 to 22.
The government clarified that this decision aims to streamline the recruitment process, fostering transparency and adherence to meritocracy. Officials argue that the financial assistance will be more beneficial to the families than job provisions, sparing them from potential legal or administrative complications.
