The Government of Punjab has imposed Section 144 across the province in light of the rallies and protests being held after the arrest of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, Imran Khan, was arrested from Islamabad High Court (IHC) by Rangers personnel on instructions of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Al-Qadir Trust case, which alleges that the former prime minister, along with his wife and other PTI leaders, made a settlement between his government and a property tycoon that reportedly caused a loss of £190 billion to the national exchequer.
Following the arrest of PTI chief, Imran Khan, the party’s workers and supporters have taken to the street to protest against the incumbent government. Therefore, the Government of Punjab has imposed Section 144 across the province in order to avoid any untoward incident.
In a notification issued by the Government of Punjab stated that a history of terrorist activities in the rallies and protests puts civilians and police officials in danger, which is why it is a necessity to impose Section 144 and ban all kinds of assemblies, gatherings, sit-ins, rallies, processions, demonstrations, jalsas, dharnas, protests, and such activities across the province of Punjab.
Furthermore, the notification stated that order shall come into force immediately for a period of two days.
