Punjab govt to recommend not lifting lockdown in major cities

LAHORE: The Information Minister for Punjab Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan said that the government will submit an official recommendation to the Centre for not lifting lockdown in major cities of the province.

The Minister while addressing the media in Lahore said:

We have seen that there is a hype about coronavirus in some big cities. Therefore, we are submitting this recommendation to the federal government and if it is approved, then the lockdown and standard operating procedures will remain in big cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Gujranwala.

Fayyaz ul Hassan also said that a session of the Punjab Assembly will be held toda for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown.

According to the Information Minister, the coronavirus pandemic had shown the real performance of the previous ruling parties over several years especially in the health sector.

The coronavirus cases in Punjab are now rising rapidly hundreds of new cases along with several deaths being reported every day.

The number of coronavirus cases in Punjab have surged past 10,000 while the death toll of the province is 194. The province is now carrying out over 5,000 tests a day according to the Provincial Disaster and Management Authority.
