During a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday, the Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid said that it is feared that religious party Tehreek-e-Labbaik (TLP) may be listed amongst the international community as a terrorist organization and it that happens, “we won’t be able to handle their cases.”

“Therefore, we are handing over the powers to Rangers for the next 60 days to establish law and order in Lahore and the rest of Punjab,” the interior minister added, while saying that the government wanted peace to be established in the country.

The minister said that he had kept his word and “the French envoy isn’t in Pakistan.” while asking TLP to keep its promise and return peacefully. He added that the government has reached out to the party and help talks with their leadership but the party has turned militant organization.

Sheikh Rashid added that the Punjab Government has taken help from the Rangers under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997 to control the law and order situation and deal with Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
