Roadblocks and Traffic Disruptions in Islamabad Ahead of PTI Protest

ISLAMABAD: Residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi are facing severe traffic disruptions as the local administration has implemented extensive roadblocks ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for Friday. Containers and barriers have been placed at various entry and exit points of the capital, severely affecting traffic flow.

The Red Zone, including NADRA Chowk and Express Chowk, has been fully sealed, while Margalla Road and Ayub Chowk offer limited access. Major traffic jams have been reported at key intersections, including Faizabad.

In an effort to prevent PTI workers from entering the capital, containers have also been placed on sections of the motorway and 26 Number Chungi, targeting routes from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. Security forces, including heavy contingents of police and paramilitary personnel, have been deployed across the region to maintain control.

Public transportation has been disrupted, and many commuters, schools, and offices are experiencing delays and reduced attendance. Several roads leading to the capital, especially around Faizabad, have been closed.

The protest coincides with the visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting, leading Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to announce strict measures to prevent PTI supporters from reaching D-Chowk. Naqvi emphasized that gatherings near diplomatic zones would not be tolerated, citing the importance of national interests during these high-profile events.

Authorities have urged PTI workers to reconsider their protest plans in light of the diplomatic significance of the events, as security concerns grow over potential clashes. PTI founder Imran Khan, however, has called for nationwide protests, urging supporters to stand for judicial independence.

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
