Public Holiday announced in Sindh on August 20

The Sindh government has declared a public holiday on August 20 to honor the annual Urs of the renowned Sufi poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

The official notification confirms that Tuesday will be observed as a day off across the province.

The Urs celebrations will feature several traditional events, including the prestigious Shah Latif Literary Conference and the historic Sindhi boat racing competition known as Malakhro.

A Sufi music gathering will also be held, reflecting the spiritual legacy of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. Additionally, exhibitions showcasing agricultural and industrial advancements will be organized, along with a cultural village that will highlight traditional Sindhi crafts and items.

One of the most anticipated events during the Urs is the ceremony for the Shah Latif Award, Sindh’s highest honor, celebrating excellence in various fields.

The award symbolizes the enduring influence of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s teachings and cultural contributions.

The annual Urs, held over three days starting from Safar 14, takes place at Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s final resting place in Bhit Shah.

This event draws thousands of devotees and visitors from across Pakistan, making it a significant cultural and spiritual gathering.
