GENEVA: United Nations High Commissioner for Human Right issued a statement on current sitaation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
UN High Commissioner said, “I am deeply concerned about the impact of recent actions by the Government of India on the human rights of Kashmiris, Inducing restrictions on Internet communications and peaceful assembly, and the detention of local political leaders and activists.”
“I have appealed particularly to India to east the current lockdowns or curfews to ensure people’s access to basic remedies; and that all due process rights are respected for those who have been detained.” – he added.
Prime Minsiter Imran Khan responded on Twitter saying that “I welcome the growing concern and demands by the International community, global leaders, UNSG & UNHCHR, for India to lift its 6 week long siege of Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK). The International Community must not remain indifferent to the massive human rights abuses by Occupation Indian forces under cover of a brutal siege.”
“I especially welcome the statement by the UNHCHR in Geneva today. I call upon the United Nations Human Rights Council to immediately setup the Independent Investigation commission to probe human rights abuses in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir as recommended by the UNHCHR’s two reports on Kashmir. The time to act is now.” – PM, Imran Khan
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi yesterday left for Switzerland on a three-day visit to represent Pakistan at the 42nd session of UN Human Rights Council beginning in Geneva on Monday.
