Weather Update: PMD Predicts Rain With Heatwave Conditions Likely to Subside

In the latest weather update, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted rain in the upper parts of the country, with severe heatwave conditions likely to subside.

According to the details, the Met Office informed us that a shallow westerly wave is likely to affect the upper parts of the country on May 28th (evening or night).

Balochistan:

A duststorm or thunderstorm is expected in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Sherani, and Barkhan from May 27th (night) to May 29th. .

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

A duststorm or thunderstorm with isolated rain is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan and Kurram from May 28 (evening/night) to June 1 (with occasional gaps).

Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir

Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from May 28th (evening/night) to June 1st.

Punjab/Islamabad

Duststorm/thunderstorm with isolated rain is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali from May 28 (evening/night) to June 1 (with occasional gaps).

Sindh

Duststorms and gusty winds are expected in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, and Hyderabad on May 28th and 29th.

Possible impacts and advice:

• The farmers are advised to manage the crops accordingly.
• Duststorms, windstorms, and lightning may affect daily routines, standing crops, and loose structures like electric poles, vehicles, solar panels, etc. during the period.
• Severe heatwave conditions are likely to subside in the upper parts on May 28.
• Heatwave-like conditions are likely in the central and southern parts of the country. Day temperatures are likely to remain 03–04 °C above normal.
• The general public is advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight.

The PMD has advised all concerned authorities to remain alert and take necessary measures to avoid any untoward incident.
