Weather Update: Rains Expected With Heatwave Conditions Likely to Subside

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a new weather update stating that heatwave conditions are likely to subside during the week with dust-thunderstorms and rains predicted in upper parts from June 4 to 4, 2024.

Met office informed that a shallow westerly wave is likely to enter upper and central parts of the country on Tuesday (Evening/night) and may persist during next three days.

Gilgit-Baltistan/Kashmir

Rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Kashmir (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur) from 03rd June (evening/night) to 08th June. with occasional gaps.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Duststorm/thunderstorm with rain is expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Malakand, Kohat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan and Kurram from 04th June (evening/night) to 08th June with occasional gaps.

Punjab/Islamabad

Duststorm/thunderstorm with rain is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha and Mianwali from 04th June to 06th June with occasional gaps. Duststorm/thunderstorm with isolated rain is also expected in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, D.G. Khan, Sahiwal, Multan and Layyah from 05th June (Evening/night) to 07th June.

Balochistan

Duststorm/thunderstorm with isolated rain is expected in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Sherani, Kohlu, Musakhel, Dera Bugti and Barkhan from 05th June (Evening/night) to 07th June.

Sindh

Duststorm/gusty winds with isolated rain-thunderstorm is expected in Sukkur, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Larkana on 06th June & 07th June.

Possible impacts and advice:

  • Duststorm/windstorm and lightning may affect daily routines, standing crops, loose structures like electric poles, vehicles and solar panels etc during the period.
  • Heatwave conditions are likely to subside in the country during the forecast period.
