LAHORE: The 2024 Asian MMA Championship 2024 was a landmark event for Pakistan, showcasing the country’s growing prominence in mixed martial arts on the international stage. Pakistani fighters Eman Khan and Bano Butt delivered exceptional performances, each securing gold medals in their respective categories.

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, Bano Butt triumphed in the women’s atomweight division, claiming the gold medal after a hard-fought final against Kazakhstan’s Gulnaz Abdrakhmanova. Butt’s journey to the top was marked by a powerful knockout victory over India’s Khushboo Nishad in the semi-finals, underscoring her prowess in the octagon.

Meanwhile, Eman Khan added another gold to Pakistan’s tally in the senior women’s flyweight category. Khan’s final match saw her defeat Kazakhstan’s Dinara Ayapova with a dominant first-round victory. Khan credited her win to years of rigorous training and preparation, while also praising Bano Butt for her outstanding achievements in the championship.

While the women’s team celebrated success, the men’s divisions were more challenging for Pakistan. Fighters Zeeshan Akbar, Shahab Ali, and Abdul Manan faced tough competition and were unable to secure victories in their respective categories. Despite their efforts, Akbar was outmatched by a Kyrgyz opponent after three grueling rounds, Ali was defeated by Kazakhstan’s Neimat Assadov in the lightweight division, and Manan fell short in the flyweight final.

Overall, Pakistan ended the championship with a commendable medal haul of two golds and four silvers. The country finished behind Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, who both secured seven golds, while Bahrain claimed three. Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan each took home two gold medals.

The 2024 Asian MMA Championship, hosted in Pakistan for the first time, was a significant milestone for the sport in the country. The event, held from August 18 to August 22, featured over 180 fighters from 12 countries and marked the return of the Brave Combat Federation to Pakistan after a six-year break.

As the championship concluded, it was clear that Pakistan’s MMA scene is on the rise, with athletes like Eman Khan and Bano Butt leading the charge for future successes on the international stage.
