Soon after the conclusion of PSL 5 previous month, PCB has now put forward the tentative dates for PSL 6 2021, recommencing the excitement of the much applauded tournament.
There was a time not long ago, when Pakistani stadiums were left with nothing but aching darkness, as the lights and joy of cricket had been carted off from the country. International teams had called quits to the homeland tours and all other local tournaments were also held abroad. However, the blue phase has now passed.
Today, Pakistan stands among the top countries globally with the undying passion for cricket. And, with that being said, Pakistan Super League [PSL] that was initiated 6 years back possesses righteous credits for this huge accomplishment.
Pakistan Super League
Pakistan based twenty20 cricket tournament PSL was initiated in 2015, by the Pakistan Cricket Board, after two years of speculations. At that time, Najam Sethi was the executive committee chief of the organization and his efforts are highly regarded in Pakistan for making the dream of local tournament a reality.
The League started with five teams, with the addition of sixth in 2017, named after the big cities of Pakistan. Entitled Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans, Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United, the franchises are owned and controlled by numerous investors. Furthermore, not only the team green players, but a huge bunch of International players also participate in PSL.
At initial years, the tournament was wholly held in United Arab Emirates. Later, PCB announced to host the final matches in the homeland, followed with semi-finals in following years.
This year, all the matches of PSL 2020 as promised by Prime Minister Imran Khan were held in Pakistan, in home stadiums. The tournament was hosted by Karachi, Lahore, Multan and Rawalpindi pitches. Hence, PSL 2021, inaugurating very soon will be the second season held entirely in the country.
PSL is organized every year between February and March. Nevertheless, the fifth edition faced an unexpected halt owing to the global pandemic, and after huge time lag, finally terminated in the month of November, declaring the Karachi Kings franchise as the champions.
However, if you’re already missing the head to head battle between cities, then wait no longer, as PCB has recently dropped another enormous bombshell, concerning the PSL season 2021.
The preparations for the sixth season are already underway. PCB CEO Wasim Khan, in a press conference, revealed that PSL 6 2021 will probably be held from 20th February to 21st March, on the same venues as the previous season.
Moreover, the drafts of the new season are to begin from the first week of January, and are likely to come about in National Stadium Karachi. The draft will provide an opportunity for the franchises to make the necessary adjustments to their squads by recruiting players of their choice. Additionally, the six franchises have also been informed of the tentative dates and venues of PSL 2021, allowing them a plenty of time for squads selection and necessary preparations.
