Apple Expected to Launch 20-inch Foldable MacBook by 2027

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that Apple might enter the foldable device market with a unique approach by introducing a foldable MacBook. This device, with an expected 20-inch screen, could potentially hit the market by 2027. Kuo’s insight, shared on X/Twitter, indicates that while details are limited, this foldable MacBook appears to be Apple’s primary focus in the foldable product arena.

Mass production of the foldable MacBook is projected to commence in 2027, highlighting Apple’s cautious approach towards foldable technology. This aligns with prior mentions of the concept by display analyst Ross Young and the Korean website The Elec. Although specifics regarding the design are scarce, it’s speculated that the device could exceed the screen size of Apple’s largest current laptop, the 16-inch MacBook Pro, and possibly reintroduce sizes akin to the discontinued 17-inch MacBook Pro.

While the exact form factor remains undisclosed, a foldable design could offer versatility, serving as a traditional laptop when partially unfolded and delivering an expansive display experience when fully open. However, Kuo’s comments suggest that Apple currently has no immediate plans for foldable iPhones or iPads, despite ongoing speculation.

Previously, reports indicated Apple’s exploration of the foldable market with plans for a smaller 7-inch to 8-inch device potentially replacing the iPad Mini, slated for release between 2026 and 2027. However, Kuo’s recent statement suggests that foldable iPhones or iPads are still distant prospects.
