The social media giant Facebook is killing off its Facebook Lite app for iOS specifically developed for older phones and low speed connections mainly due to low adoption of the application by users.
Facebook Lite app was launched back in 2018 alongside the Lite version of messenger by the social media giant to make the network more accessible to user with poor and slow internet connections like 2G and older phones.
The application worked by not downloading images at higher resolutions or auto playing videos while making it much snappier and easier to use on older and slower devices with limited storage.
The Lite version of the application was just 8.7MB is compared to the full full app that was a massive 244.7MB and considered to have a lot of bloatware according to users.
Users of the Facebook Lite app in Brazil have started receiving a message that the application will soon be disabled. This is what the message states:
Facebook Lite for iOS will be disabled.
You can use the original Facebook app to keep in touch with friends and family.
According to sources, the Lite version of the app is no longer available on the Apple App Store however, Messenger Lite is still available for download and there is no such news on that being discontinued by the company.
A Facebook spokesperson did issue a statement regarding the decision to discontinue the app saying:
Due to the limited adoption and improvements we are making to improve the experience for people in our apps, we will no longer support Facebook Lite for iOS,
