MediaTek is gearing up to challenge Qualcomm’s dominance in the flagship chip market with its upcoming Dimensity 9400. Leaked details suggest significant performance upgrades over its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300, positioning MediaTek as a strong contender in the high-end segment. The chipset, expected to launch in the fourth quarter of this year, boasts notable improvements in both single-core and multi-core performance.
According to renowned tipster Digital Chat Station, the Dimensity 9400 achieves a Geekbench 6 single-core score of 2700, marking a 19.3% increase over the Dimensity 9300, while its multi-core score sees a 24.7% improvement. Equipped with the Immortalis G9xx series GPU, the chipset promises a 11.1% framerate boost in the GFXBench Aztec Ruins test at 1440p resolution.
Built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm manufacturing process, the Dimensity 9400 offers a 32% increase in power efficiency. Its CPU configuration includes one Cortex-X5 prime core, three Cortex-X4 prime cores, and four Cortex-A720 performance cores, surpassing the Dimensity 9300’s setup. Additionally, the chipset supports LPDDR5T RAM, enhancing on-device AI capabilities.
Despite these advancements, the Dimensity 9400 faces tough competition from rivals like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Initial comparisons suggest that while the Dimensity 9400 shows considerable improvements, it may not fully surpass the performance benchmarks of its competitors. Concerns have also been raised about the power consumption and performance of the Cortex-X5 core at different clock speeds, which MediaTek aims to address to optimize the chipset’s efficiency.
