Samsung on Tuesday unveiled the Exynos 2100, its latest flagship processor at its very own launch event ahead of the Galaxy Unpacked scheduled for 14th January 2021.
This is the company’s first mobile processor with an integrated 5G modem and the second one to be built on the Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography process node, which allows the chip to deliver up to 10 percent higher performance or lower power consumption by 20 percent.
Samsung is also focusing on the AI capabilities with the Exynos 2100 and claims that the new chipset is capable of performing up to 26-trillion-operations-per-second (TOPS) with more than twice the power efficiency compared to the previous generation.
The new chipset has an octa-core chipset with a prime Cortex-X1 core clocked at 2.9Ghz, three high-performance Cortex-A78 cores and four Cortex-A55 power-efficient cores.
Samsung claims that the Exynos 2100 offers 30 percent faster multi-core performance and a 19 percent increase in single-core performance over the previous generation.
The chipset also uses the new Mali-G78 GPU, which supports the Vulkan and OpenCL APIs while adding enhanced support for Augmented Reality (AR)/Virtual Reality (VR) or Mixed Reality(MR).
Furthermore, there is a new feature called AMIGO (Advanced Multi-IP Governor) technology “which overlooks and optimizes power usages of CPU, GPU, and other processes, allowing longer use time even with intense on-screen activities.”
Moreover, there is a new Image Signal Processor (ISP) with support of resolutions up to 200MP and six cameras which can process four simultaneously. The Exynos 2100 also supports 4K recording at 120 FPS and 8K playback at 60 FPS while it is the first chipset with an AV1 decoder for 8K video.
The Samsung Exynos 2100 will also support UFS 3.1 and LPDDR5 RAM while offering fast connectivity with 5G, 4G LTE, 3G and 2G networks.
Samsung will hold its Galaxy Unpacked event on 14th January 2021 where the company will unveil its upcoming devices, including the Galaxy S21 which will be powered by the new flagship processor.
