WhatsApp has reportedly been testing an Edit Message feature, that would allow users to edit messages after sending them. According to the details, WhatsApp has been testing the Edit Message feature since 2017, but it never made it to the stable release.
As per a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing testing a feature that would allow users to edit a message even after it has been sent to the recipient. It also shared a screenshot of the WhatsApp Edit Message feature, which pops up alongside the ‘Info’ and ‘Copy’ option when you tap and hold the message.
However, the Edit Message feature is currently under testing on the WhatsApp for Android beta version, and it will soon make its way to iOS and Desktop platforms. The feature seems handy in case you have made a mistake and want to correct it instead of deleting the entire message and composing it again.
There is no information on how many times one can edit the message or if the recipient will be notified about the change. Furthermore, it is still not known for how long a user will be allowed to edit the message as there is a specific time limit to delete messages.
According to WABetaInfo, there may not be an edit history to check previous versions of the message but since the feature is under development, their plans may change before release the feature to the stable version of the encrypted messenger.
