The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has given hosting rights of the Asia Cup 2023 to Pakistan. The decision was taken by the ACC during a meeting held in Dubai on Friday. The meeting was chaired by Jay Shah, the secretary of BCCI and attended by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja.
It was also decided that the 2023 Asia Cup will be played in ODI format. However, the 2022 edition of the tournament will take place in a 20-over format (T20) in Sri Lanka. The switch in formats will reportedly allow Asian Teams to prepare for the mega event adequately.
It is pertinent to mention that the Asia Cup 2023 will be the 16th edition of the tournament. The 15th edition was originally set to be played last year but it ended up getting postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, this will be the second time Pakistan will be hosting the tournament after 2008.
The decision has come just hours after Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly invited Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ramiz Raja to watch the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
