Pakistani neuroscientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui is calling for public support after being violently attacked by an inmate in Texas prison. The development came as her lawyer Marwa Elbially told NGO CAGE about the attack on Dr Aafia Siddiqui last month.
According to the details, the inmate smashed a coffee mug with hot liquid into Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s face, which led to severe injuries and caused her to fall to the ground. She was unable to get up and had to be taken out of the cell in a wheelchair.
The attack left severe burns around her eyes and the coffee mug also cut her face, leaving a large 3-inch scar near her left eye. Elbially added that Dr Aafia Siddiqui also had bruises on her right arm and legs.
However, the reason behind the attack is still unclear and Dr Aafia Siddique has been placed in administrative solitary confinement for an unspecified period of time.
It is pertinent to mention that Dr Aafia Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years imprisonment for attempted murder charge in 2010, after what was called a controversial trial where she accused the witnesses of lying.
Over the years, she has been dubbed the “most wronged woman in the world” as her case has been plagued by several inconsistencies, contradictory allegations and evidence allegedly gathered from torture.
Twitter has been trending with the matter after Dr Aafia Siddiqui called for public support out of fear for her safety.
