Donia Abu Taleb, a Taekwondo athlete, has made history by securing a direct qualification spot for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, making her the first Saudi female athlete to achieve this feat. Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, the Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, extended his congratulations to Abu Taleb for her historic achievement. He expressed his pride and joy, emphasizing the continuous support from the country’s leadership.
Abu Taleb’s journey in Taekwondo is characterized by persistence and groundbreaking achievements. Starting at the age of eight, she initially trained with her brother at a boys’ club until she was 13. Despite facing obstacles, including being barred from the club, she continued her training at home under her brother’s coach. In 2015, she joined the Saudi Arabian Taekwondo Federation, encouraged by her former coach.
Now 27 years old, Abu Taleb’s career is decorated with notable successes. She clinched a gold medal at the World Taekwondo Club Championship in Jordan in 2016 and has since accumulated numerous accolades, including bronze medals at both global and Asian levels during the 2022-2023 season.
