The Maoist rebels, known as Naxals, claim inspiration from Chinese revolutionary leader Mao Zedong.

These rebels have been fighting Indian government for more than four decades.

They demand land and jobs for tenant farmers and the poor.

With thousands of fighters they are active in several parts of India.

The Maoist rebels have killed more than 10 people, including a politician, in Chhattisgarh state amid the multi-phase general elections that will conclude on May 19.
