Thousands of Muslims gathered in the breaking dawn to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, in the Russian capital on Tuesday. Moscow city authorities have allocated areas for festive prayers outside several mosques in the city.
The center of the celebrations is the Cathedral Mosque of Moscow, currently being rebuilt next to the sports complex “Olympiysky”.
Worship is also being held in the Historical, Memorial and Yardyam mosques. Public order in Moscow will be monitored by some 4,000 police officers and Interior Ministry troops.
