Multiple explosions hit Two Churches in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA: Explosions rock 3 churches and 2 hotels in Colombo of Sri Lanka. 25 feared dead and 80 injured in the incident.

Multiple explosions hit two churches St.Anthony’s Church in Kochikade, Kotahena and St.Sebastian’s Church in Katuwapitiya in Katana, Sri Lanka on Sunday Morning.

At least 80 people were injured in two explosions hits two churches while worshippers were attended Easter Services in Sri Lanka.

The blasts occurred at around 8:45 am (Local Time) The Easter Sunday as masses gathered in churches.

“Eighty people have already been admitted, and more are still coming in,” an official at the Colombo National Hospital told AFP on condition of anonymity.

A second explosion was reported at St. Sebastian’s Church in Negombo, a Catholic majority town north of Colombo. The church has appealed for help on its Facebook page.

According to tweets by several users on micro-blogging site Twitter, the initial explosions were reported at the premises of St. Anthony’s Church in Kochchikade, resulting in injuries. Reports inform that the six places that have been hit by the explosion are- Kochikade Church, Katuwapitiya Church, Shangri La hotel, Cinnamon Grand Hotel, Kingsbury Church, and a church in Batticaloa.

Sri Lankan security forces immediately rushed to both areas and cordon off the churches.

Rescue teams reached the scene and shifted injured people to the hospitals.

Local media reported people with different injuries had so far been admitted in Colombo’s main hospital.
