Rainy Weather Expected in Parts of UAE

Residents in specific areas of the UAE should prepare for rainy weather over the next two days, according to Mariam Alshahhi, a meteorologist at the UAE’s National Center of Meteorology (NCM). These areas include Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra, Al Wathba, Al Ain, and the eastern and northern emirates of Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Umm Al Quwain. Heavy rainfall is anticipated on Wednesday, February 28, and Thursday, February 29, in these regions. Meanwhile, Dubai and Sharjah are expected to experience cloudy skies with occasional light rainfall.

The weather pattern is attributed to a surface low-pressure system from the Southwest and an extension of an upper-air low-pressure system, accompanied by a western jetstream. Cloudy weather will commence in the morning, with light rainfall expected primarily in Al Dhafrah, gradually moving to Al Wathba and Al Ain. By the afternoon, more clouds will form over these areas, potentially leading to moderate rainfall. Clouds will also move over Dubai and Sharjah, with scattered light rainfall.

The situation is expected to peak on Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, with heavy rain and thunder activity. Temperatures will decrease by Thursday noon, and cloud cover will gradually diminish by Thursday night. Moderate winds are forecasted by Thursday noon, potentially leading to dust and sandstorms, particularly in coastal areas.

Cloud seeding may be conducted if suitable clouds are identified. The NCM’s cloud seeding division monitors convective clouds, which are most conducive to successful cloud seeding. Additionally, the NCM alert suggests convective clouds with a chance of rainfall in some eastern areas on Friday, while coastal regions may remain dry.
