A devastating accident occurred on Monday when a passenger train collided with a Kamaz truck in southern Russia. The collision killed at least two people and injured up to 100 others. The train, carrying 800 passengers, derailed eight carriages near the Kotelnikovo station in the Volgograd region, approximately 1,200 km (750 miles) south of Moscow.

The train had been traveling from Kazan in Tatarstan to Adler on the Black Sea when the tragic incident happened. Eyewitnesses reported seeing some carriages twisted and battered beside the railway track.

Emergency response teams quickly arrived at the scene. The Ministry of Emergencies confirmed the involvement of 324 emergency workers in the rescue operation. Emergency helicopters were also dispatched to assist in the efforts. “Paramedics are on the scene,” the ministry said, emphasizing the extensive rescue operation underway.

The Mash Telegram channel initially reported the death toll as at least two but warned it could rise. Interfax news agency echoed these concerns, stating that up to 100 people might be injured. Unverified videos on Telegram showed at least four derailed carriages, some severely damaged. People were seen climbing out of a carriage lying on its side beside the rails.

Additional footage from Mash displayed the wrecked cabin of the Kamaz truck involved in the collision. TASS, citing anonymous sources in Russian law enforcement, reported that 20 people sustained injuries when the train collided with the truck.

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of this tragic accident. The focus remains on providing immediate medical care to the injured and restoring normalcy at the accident site.
