The Ras Al Khaimah Police have initiated a new two-week awareness campaign targeting speeding, a leading cause of fatalities on the emirate’s roads. This campaign, directed by Major General Ali bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, operates under the slogan “Speeding is your wrong decision.” Its primary goal is to curb fatal traffic accidents resulting from excessive speed and reckless driving.
Colonel Dr. Muhammad Al Bahar, Director of the Traffic and Patrols Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, noted that numerous speeding violations have been captured by traffic control devices. He appealed to drivers to exercise caution, particularly on highways and internal roads experiencing heavy traffic.
Col Al Bahar highlighted the hefty fines associated with speeding violations. According to Article 34 of Ministerial Resolution No. 178, exceeding the speed limit by over 80 km/h incurs a fine of Dh3,000, 23 traffic points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment. Similarly, Article 35 outlines a fine of Dh2,000, 12 traffic points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment for exceeding the speed limit by more than 60 km/h.
