Petition filed in LHC for use of VPN to access TikTok.

LAHORE: A citizen has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) regarding use of Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access TikTok, the social media app recently banned in Pakistan by authorities for promoting vulgar content.

According to the petitioner, the short video sharing app TikTok is still being used across the country despite being banned by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

UPDATE: TikToker challenges TikTok ban in Sindh High Court.

It was pleaded to the court that government should take steps to block access to Virtual Private Networks (VPN) in order to stop people from access recently banned TikTok application.

Furthermore, Former Additional Director General (ADG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Ammar Jaffri has revealed that the reason behind TikTok ban in Pakistan was the increasing amount of fake content on the application.

PTA Bans TikTok in Pakistan

Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) banned TikTok in Pakistan on 9th October stating that the regulator had received numerous complaints regarding immoral and indecent content on the application.

According to PTA, multiple notices were issued to TikTok but the application failed Since the application failed to comply with the instructions and filter out the vulgar content and put in place an effective moderation mechanism.
