At least 60 people have been reported dead along with over 900 injured as rescue operation continue after the massive earthquake hit Turkey on Friday.
Hundreds of people are currently being treated at hospitals with eight of them in critical condition while over 700 patients have been discharged following the tragic incident on Friday.
Over 20 buildings collapsed after the earthquake hit the Izmir province of Turkey with tremors even felt as far as Ankara and Marmara, where Istanbul is located.
The earthquake on Friday was recorded at a magnitude of 7.0 with a depth of 10 km while the epicenter was reported 33.5 km off the Aegean coast according to the US Geological Survey.
There were more than 800 aftershocks recorded following the earthquake including 40 that were over 4.0 in magnitude. Furthermore, the tremors from the quake were felt as far as Ankara and Marmara, where Istanbul in located.
Nearly 6,000 rescue workers to find missing people still stuck under the rubble with operations being halted and everyone observing silence to try and listen for survivors.
According to authorities, they have rescued a 70-year-old man identified by local media as Ahmet Citim who was trapped under the rubble for over 33 hours before finally being found by rescue workers.
Moreover, two teenagers were also killed in Greece as the earthquake triggered a mini-tsunami on the Greek Island of Samos with water also flooding the streets of a coastal town in Turkey.
Thousands of tents were set up for those affected by the earthquake around the collapsed buildings and many families spent their second night in thick blankets outside.
