Former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and PML-N President Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s mother, Begum Shamim Akhtar, passed away in London, the party confirmed on Sunday.
Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Attaullah Tarar took to Twitter to announce the tragic news of her passing stating, “Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s mother has passed away.”
Begum Shamim Akhtar was 90 years old and had been ill for quite some time now with treatment ongoing in London. However, her condition worsened over the last week and she could not recover due to her old age.
PML-N leader Attaullah Tarar told a media outlet that he spoke to Suleman Shehbaz over the phone who confirmed that steps were being taken to shift her body to Pakistan for burial.
Shehbaz Sharif also took to social media sharing a picture of his deceased mother and requested everyone to pray for her eternal peace.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto, former president Asif Zardari, CM Punjab Usman Buzdar had all expressed their sorrow over the incident and passed their condolences to Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, and Shahbaz Sharif.
