Lack of Facilities Hinders Pakistan’s Tourism Growth

Pakistan’s government aims to boost its multi-billion-dollar tourism industry, but lacks basic facilities like rest areas (public toilets) for tourists, causing inconvenience for travelers.

The government promotes tourism without proper rest areas (public toilets).

Major tourist spots like Murree and Malam Jabba lack these facilities, leaving tourists to stop at mosques or hotels/restaurants. Politicians, often flying, overlook these essential needs for road travelers. For instance, the Islamabad-Murree Expressway lacks restrooms. Malam Jabba, 50 kilometers away, faces similar issues.

To enhance tourism, the government must provide public toilets. If providing free facilities is challenging, they could set up paid restrooms. Unfortunately, existing restrooms, like those in Malam Jabba, are poorly maintained, and unfit for use.

Similar issues are seen in Naran, Kaghan, and Bisham, where only petrol pumps offer public toilets.

Despite tourism promotion, the government neglects basic needs. Proper signboards for service areas, like those on motorways, are crucial. It’s time for the government to prioritize these facilities to support the growing tourism sector.

Farhan Abro

Hello! My name is Farhan Abro, and I'm based here in Islamabad. My journey in Pakistan's digital media really kicked off when I founded INCPak back in 2012. We built it from the ground up, driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, to be a trusted voice for independent journalism. But while media is a big part of who I am, I'm also shaped by a fascinating mix of other passions. I'm deeply into automotive, which gives me a technical edge, but I also find my artistic expression through landscape photography and music. And I'm always diving into the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence. Bringing all these different worlds together the technical, the creative, the journalistic, and the entrepreneurial—it really colors how I see things and approach every project. It gives me a distinct perspective that I try to bring to everything I share
