Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman has announced a nationwide strike on Monday (19 April 2021) amid the on-going protests and clashes between TLP workers and police. The strike call has been endorsed by JUIF Chief Maulana Fazl ur Rehman.
The religious party started their protests after their chief Saad Hussain Rizvi was taken into custody by police in Lahore before the party’s deadline (20 April 2021) to expel the French ambassador from the country.
There has been unrest in major cities around the country with many lives lost on both sides as a result of clashes between TLP workers and police officials.
The situation worsened today as TLP workers clashed with police at Jamia Masjid Rehmatul-Lil Alameen which is located at Yateem Khana Chowk in Lahore.
According to a statement issued by Punjab police on Twitter, the TLP workers attacked policemen and rangers at the Nawankot Police Station and kidnapped the deputy superintendent of police (DSP).
“Police and rangers pushed them back and took back the possession of the police station.” said the Punjab Police in a statement on Twitter. “Police did not plan nor conduct any operation against the mosque or the madrassa.”
“The action, if any, was in self defense and to protect public property.” stated Punjab police after the clash that took place between TLP workers and police officials in Lahore on Sunday.

Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman has now announced a nationwide shutter-down strike in the country on Monday (19 April 2021) amid the on-going protests in the country. Furthermore, the strike call has been endorsed by JUIF Chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman.
Earlier, Mufti Muneeb ur Rehman demanded that the federal government unban the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).
