Govt to allow Facebook monetization in Pakistan

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government has unanimously adopted a resolution to allow Facebook monetization in Pakistan in a bid to generate revenue using the social media platform.

The resolution which was moved by MPA Zia Ullah Bangash of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) recommended the provincial government to ask the federal government to allow Facebook monetization service in Pakistan so that the country’s youth can benefit from the social media platform and earn money.

“Approximately 5 million Facebook users in Pakistan especially the youth can benefit from the positive use of Facebook and earn money” said MPA Zia Ullah Bangash on Twitter.

The speaker of the National Assembly has already had a meeting with the Facebook officials regarding turning on Facebook monetization in Pakistan, the resolution reads.

It bears mentioning that Facebook users can earn money through advertisement from their videos uploaded on the social media platform. Although there are certain requirements to qualify for the program, the social media platform has recently reduced the time duration of videos eligible for monetization to one minute, down from three minutes.
