WiFi 7 in the works by chipmakers like Qualcomm

Several tech-giants like Qualcomm, Broadcom and MediaTek are in the process of developing microchips with support for WiFi 7 even though it hasn’t been long since WiFi 6 hit the market and began appearing on products.

According to GizChina, the chipmaker Qualcomm thinks it will still take at least 2-3 years for WiFi 7 to be widely used across devices but the new generation is expected to support double the speed compared to WiFi 6.

WiFi 7 will also combine multiple spectrums and provide a higher quality experience but it will still take time before the technology is made available.

Apart from Qualcomm, there are several other chipmakers like Broadcomm and MediaTek developing chips for the next generation of WiFi.

WiFi 7 will likely be the commercial name for 802.11be standard and the newer generation will support 16 data streams along with CMU-MIMO technology compared to only 8 data streams on WiFi 6.

Furthermore, WiFi 7 will also introduce a new 6Ghz frequency band with three frequency bands working simultaneously to expand the width of a single channel 160Mhz on WiFi 6 to 320Mhz.

Moreover, the WiFi 7 technology will could support final speeds of 30Gbps compared to 9.6Gbps on WiFi 6 with an upgraded signal modulation method to 4096QAM.
