In the latest Drought Bulletin, the Pakistan Meteorological Department stated that near normal rainfall is expected during the current month. “The strong incursion of monsoon currents and their interaction with westerly weather systems will cause normal to above-normal rainfall in the upper half of Pakistan,” the weather report for this month said.

Furthermore, the rise in temperatures at high altitudes will likely cause snowmelt in northern areas which will subsequently lead to increased water availability in the upper Indus basin that may lead to flooding along rivers and their adjoining tributaries.

Moreover, the met department stated that monsoon rainfall is expected for July with eastern and upper half of Punjab, eastern Balochistan and Kashmir likely to receive moderately above normal rainfall while slightly above normal rainfall is expected in Sindh as well.

However, the onset of monsoon is expected during the last week of June.
